Alice spends her days at work; her nights at Tom’s bar, hopefully beating him at checkers; and if she isn’t at the bookstore, she’s at home with her cat, Jinx. On Wednesdays, she is at Dr. Sharon’s, her psychiatrist.
After years of suicidal thoughts and a complicated relationship with her parents, Alice is given an exercise: write in a composition journal everything she has ever wanted to say to her mother. As her darkening thoughts grow, she is confronted by the attention from Nathan, the new man in town, and Jesse, her annoying and overly confident coworker. Each day, between her journal writing and new relationships and plans for ending her life, Alice struggles to juggle her commitments to the world and herself.
