The UnNatural Heir
Nickie Christine's story is a drama focusing on specific, deeply emotional experiences. Her writings discuss personal tragedies, and intense personal growth without her being under a cloud of anyone else's concern.
“I had questioned my true position in my family since I was six years old. Those initial doubts were actually created within me by one person, and I called him my brother. My family of six were ‘middle class’ African American and were compared to by other family and friends as ‘The Cosbys’ of our time. For thirty years, these people were my family. The majority of them had behaved in ways towards me that had reassured me that I was theirs.
The actual truth, after decades together, was that I was adopted. This was something that I found out accidentally and a subject that no one wanted to discuss with me freely. Shortly after finding out about my adoption, I ended up in a mental health facility for almost three weeks. That period of time is what gave way for me to begin receiving professional help, and is when and how I began to learn ‘The way’ to manage or cope with my many ongoing family struggles and personal hurts. Thank you for taking time to read my story.”

"Every morning before my feet even hit the floor for the day, I think first to respect the day as the gift it truly is."
