The Retirement Years is a humorous collection of short stories about the lives of Emma and Elmer Smith. As soon as Elmer retires from the Marines, their adventures begin. Elmer thinks he would like to be a farmer, but when he takes care of his cousin’s dairy farm for two weeks, he finds that he is not cut out for such hard work. Emma and Elmer are a fictitious couple who exist only in the author’s imagination and in no way resemble living persons. No matter how many differences of opinion the couple encounter along the way, their love for each other prevails in the end.

About the Author

Nancy Lee Mauer is the wife of Matthew J. Mauer, who has passed. She is the mother of eleven children, numerous grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Nancy enjoys life by living it. She golfs and bowls. She also enjoys painting, mostly watercolors. She loves horse races as well. At 90 she may be on her last project but she writes and hopes her readers will enjoy her fiction, a figment of her fertile imagination.
