The Myth of the Absentee Father portrays the author’s experiences with what he feels was an unfair family court system for non-custodial fathers. Marcos R. Wise wants fathers who are encountering the same obstacles to be involved in their children’s lives to know they are not alone. He hopes readers support and understand his view that this system needs an overhaul, and subsequently begin a conversation about how things should change.

About the Author

Marcos R. Wise was raised in a two parent household in Tuskegee, Alabama, with four siblings. He was the fourth child with two older sisters and one older brother. He also has a younger sister. His father was the bread winner and his mother was a traditional housewife. He thought that this was the family Americans strived for – a well-rounded family. However, at forty-one years old, he can finally and wholeheartedly say that isn’t the case.

Marcos Wise goes deep in this book

Marcos Wise explores the myth of the absentee father in this great piece of nonfiction. It truly is realism for many fathers who want to so desperately be an active part of their children’s lives, but for whatever reason (the court, vindictive coparent, etc), they can not. I was in tears during some parts, angry others, and smiling yet during other parts. All I can say is this is a must read, especially for single fathers and mothers as it serves as a cautionary tale to remember the children above all!
