Show Me The Middle! Liberals, Conservatives, And The Great American Middle
People are fond of labeling others, but labels often create bias and dont accurately reflect beliefs or behavior. And too often theres no room for flexibilityextremism places you either on the right or left, a Republican or a Democrat, a conservative or a liberal, and nothing less polarized than one or the other. As such, self-righteousness and negativism often accompany extremist approaches. In Show Me the Middle! Liberals, Conservatives, and the Great American Middle, Dr. McAuley encourages a centrist stance across the boards. He argues that middle thinking causes us to consider multiple points of view rather than jumping to quick conclusions. If we avoid the need to label others religiously, politically, and socially, we will encounter more honest exchanges and more tolerance as we find otherwise unrecognized common ground between us and our perceived adversaries. Show Me the Middle! unveils the middle ground that may save the church and the society.
