Outside of writing, Jake enjoys spending time outdoors, including fishing, hiking, and portaging in the Boundary Waters along the Canada–Minnesota border. In high school, he completed Advanced Placement courses in U.S. History and American Government and Politics. He is also a first-degree black belt in Taekwondo with training in hand-to-hand combat.
