Cheyenne, or Cye, Cross’s life is relatively happy. She’s fulfilled by her work as a veterinarian at Heartland Clinic and her coworkers and friends, Matt and Sylvie. Though, her egotistical boyfriend leaves something to be desired.

One night while closing the clinic alone, Cye is confronted by a robber. It is only by her quick thinking and a horse named Satan that Cye comes out of the ordeal alive, though she is left scarred, outward and inward.
