Broken Glass and Gasoline is a collection of poetry which Ivanovich wrote to comment on both society at large as well as the state of interpersonal relationships in the modern era. He also brings attention to the concept of the futility of modern consumer culture and romanticizes the concept of “pulling a Thoreau” in several pieces. Ivanovich hopes that readers will have an eye-opening experience and take pause and reflect on the way they develop themselves and view those around them.

‘Within these mental catacombs I lose my direction’

Texas author Sokratis J Ivanovich earned his degree in English literature and now, in addition to is occupations as both a restaurateur and musician, he publishes his first book of poetry - BROKEN GLASS AND GASOLINE.An initial reading of these poems suggests an angry voice, confined and restricted and annoyed by the current status of our world, drowning in media aloofness and transient cultural dynamic changes. But returning to these poems, after recovering from that mental place, reveals a poet with ideals and thoughts for altering a response to the manner in which we are living. As with all poets, allowing the poems to speak without prejudice is best. An example follows:The Snowflake and the TeardropWhat do we know of ourselvesthat we do not know of others? What can we say of ourselvesthat we cannot say of others?Like the intricate lattice work of newly fallen snoweach of us is a creation of self left to landwhere we may on this cold Earthwe all call home. How different our unique selveswhen we are all the same in difference? We are all of born of flesh, consumed bythe passions of existenceand returned to origin as our liquid selves –formless held together by tensions, tensions that run deeper than the surfacewe offer the world.Like a teardrop, salty and running, leaving its mark on a face it will neverknow. With language that is both raw and eloquent, at times touching on mythology comparisons, these poems create a visceral response: feeling them instead of simply reading them makes an impact! Great perspective on life

Broken Glass and Gasoline by Sokratis J Ivanovich is a collection of poetry that asks the reader to take a look at their own life and decide if they are living it to the fullest or just floating through without forming any true connections. I find this to be an interesting topic for the poet to take on since poetry is already such a personal thing to create. I really liked the questions taht are brought up along with the way the poet works them into the prose. Fans of poetry will really enjoy this read, but so will those who are looking for a new perspective in life. I highly recommend this collection.
