What do you do when the man you love, married, and thought you knew seems to turn into a wicked and cruel person right before your very eyes? What do you do when the wonderful life you led until this point turns into a waking nightmare of physical, mental, and emotional abuse of both you and your beloved children? You figure out a way to escape. This is the heart-wrenching story of Val and Phillip, the man she loved since she first laid eyes on him and with whom she attempted to make a life, not knowing that mental illness was slowly eating away at the man she thought she knew. She is sharing her story with others because not only did she want to understand what overtook her husband, but she also wanted her daughters to understand as well. In addition, she wants other women in abusive situations to know they are not alone and hopes to inspire them to seek help for themselves and the ones they love.
