Adventures of a Zoo Curator describes the job of a bird curator and all the worldwide adventures that can follow. Curator Donald Bruning, Ph.D., has flown to the corners of the world, in search of new birds to protect, care for, and bring back to the US for captive breeding programs. He’s been to Argentina to study Darwin’s rhea, Papua, New Guinea to collect birds of paradise, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Peru to learn about national parks and the best way to protect animals—each day brought a new set of challenges and opportunities to tackle.
About the Author
While Bruning’s primary responsibility is caring for animals, he also finds purpose in educating the public and teaching university courses about the animals, their conservation, and care. As a result of his attention to birds’ protection, he’s worked with local, state, and international groups to prove to the world that every animal has a place, and must be cared for.
