What if the legacy of one of history's most famous musical families extended quietly into the farmlands of Wisconsin and beyond? Beginning in the 1840s, a small group of descendants from the musical Bach family in Germany migrated to the untamed wilderness in the interior of rural Wisconsin, bringing with them stories, traditions, and a spirit that would shape generations to come. While there are other descendants of Bach musicians who migrated to America, these were the only families from the lineage that had been continuously employed in music for every generation before they arrived in Wisconsin. The gift of musical talent, intertwined with religious faith, would continue through many of these descendants for nine more generations as of this writing.

About the Author

Dr. Donovan L. Waugh studied soil science at the University of Wisconsin, driven by a mission to help developing countries avert the famines predicted in the 1950s. A farm boy at heart, he went on to spend sixty years in research, development, and teaching across Latin America, Wisconsin, and Arizona. At age 80, he began exploring his Bach ancestry. With help from a team of Bach contributors, he gathered photos, stories, and records to complete this second volume—a lasting tribute to the legacy of Johann Christoph Bach.
