Like many children, Joseph A. Proctor’s son has always had a drive to be more independent. He wants to grow up and do things on his own faster than his father would prefer. Jackson has many interests, but has always been fascinated with ships like the R.M.S. Titanic, and he wants to be the captain someday. Before he can set sail” and go out on his own, Proctor wants to do everything he can as his son’s father, to prepare him for the world, but also teach him to be a generous, kind, empathetic, and hard-working person.

A Boy with a Dream, to be out at Sea

(Five stars) ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Boy with a Dream is a delightful book about a boy who loves ships because his father is in the Navy. His father gives him words of wisdom to help him navigate the trials of life. This book is easy to read and flows in a rhythmic cadence. The pictures are engaging and well done. My sons were able to find deeper messages depicted in the illustrations. After reading it, they got a box and started building their own ship. With the author being a Navy veteran, the story beautifully captures a message that all Naval families can relate to. This would be a thoughtful gift for any family with adventurous children. I highly recommend adding this book to your child’s library.
