Baseball fans do not get to see every time a pitcher takes the mound or every time a position player takes to the field. They usually base their opinions on the greatness of the player by what they have personally witnessed or the subjective opinions of various sports writers. It is Hiram Burkes’ belief there should be an objective ranking of the 20th-century baseball players by comparing their statistics on how well they played the game at the time they played based on statistics they established during those years. This book, A Baseball Study, provides that objective ranking, defining the best all-around and most complete baseball players of the 20th century.

About the Author
While providing title research for the oil and gas business for the past forty years, Hiram Burkes found time in 2000 to begin his study of the Major League Baseball players of the 20th century. As a history major in college and as an avid fan, Hiram believed it was time to look back at these players through his method of study. He has been a fan of the Giants’ Major League team since Bobby Thomson’s game-winning homerun, the “shot heard around the world,” which won the National League Pennant for the Giants and propelled them into the 1951 World Series. Hiram was awarded the American Spirit Honor Award by the U.S. Navy during boot camp in California in 1966 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He hopes his great nieces and nephews experience the same love he has for the reading of a good book. Hiram resides in Natchez, Mississippi.
