Finished reading "I Hear Smoke!". Was not prepared for the ending. This quick read brought back so many memories of growing up in the South. You learn so much about the characters as they narrate each chapter from their perspective. Awesome job Sherry White!

This book is a treasure trove of memories. It reminded me of things I haven't thought about in years. It made me happy. It made me sad. It made me a better person. Just Wow.

WOW! Did not expect the outcome. Loved this story. Author seemed to know the characters personally. Hope the movie is coming soon.

I Hear Smoke! was an overall great read. By having chapters with different characters’ points of view, it helped give a colorful depiction of what it was like growing up in rural Alabama. From the young and outspoken Ali to the loving and often-misunderstood character Loucandy, I thoroughly enjoyed this book in its entirety. I Hear Smoke! made me laugh and cry, but most importantly made me feel as if I was part of a small country community that always has the ability to find the humor and tenderness within the hardships of everyday life.

Brilliant. Short story-like chapters with smooth transitions between. I felt I understood the relationships and the community as a whole ( both as one). Connected with the characters and was left wanting to know what happened to those who had to carry on…a sequel or two in the future?
