Why this book at this time? Our culture is in deep trouble. Divorce rates remain high even among Christians and fewer and fewer young people are marrying. Without the covenant of marriage, we lose the Trinitarian image of God’s love and its impact on the family, culture and community. We married in the Catholic Church and in a great surprise to both of us, we divorced seven years later . This book is the story of our  healthy early love, our divorce in the crazy times of the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, the sexual revolution, the post-Vatican II American Catholic world,  and God’s grace bringing us back to a beautiful (and fun again) marriage. The book focuses on the sacrament of matrimony,  the negative consequences of contraception, woman’s role and the feminist movement, and basically the steps to saving a marriage that looked by every standpoint to be beyond redemption.  It includes the interesting, the difficult, the funny and the uplifting.

"As founders of a marriage Apostolate, we see this creative and compelling book as so needed today in our culture.  It is not just entertaining and full of surprises; it is a true story of redemption.  So much hope and courage are offered just by the story of a couple who had gone through it all and have come back better and stronger to be a witness this world so desperately needs.  Carol and Bill have been blessed and now they share that gift with all of those who will read this book."

Greg and Julie Alexander, The Alexander House Marriage Ministry: authors of the book, Marriage 911: How God Saved Our Marriage, San Antonio, Texas

"Bill and Carol's book on their marriage is filled with all sorts of twists and turns and is an excellent read. After Bill returned from the Vietnam War, this good Catholic couple went downhill and actually got divorced. They eventually reconciled, got re-married, and are more in love now than ever before. They speak about how healing and reconciliation are possible even when a spouse commits adultery.

Rev. Samuel I. Plummer Pastor, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School Piscataway, Maryland.

"You are holding a golden nugget, unique among nuggets: Catholic courtship, marriage, war, parenthood, divorce and remarriage. It is authentic, time-worn, fascinating, and hopeful."

— Martha Finan, A good friend and former editor,  Portsmouth, Virginia.

"The manuscript is emotionally compelling, spiritually wise, and definitely a contribution that should help many women and hopefully prevent some divorces!"

— Sue Ellen Browder, author of Subverted: How I Helped the Sexual Revolution Hijack the Women’s Movement and Sex and the Catholic Feminist.
