Nami is a young girl who loves to surf the ocean waves. One day she meets a wise old friend, an owl named Boaz and together they enjoy the swells and speed and freedom of the surf in Nami and Boaz: The Surfer’s Tale.

About the Author

Colleen Hanley Prior grew up surfing along the beautiful coastal beaches of The Carolinas. As the youngest of nine siblings, the ocean became her babysitter and as long as she can remember, she was playing amongst the waves. Eventually surfing led her to Costa Rica where she credits her inspiration for most of her artwork. At age 20 she relocated to San Clemente, California where she has lived most of her life. This is where she not only became a pro surfer, but became increasingly consumed by painting and selling her art. Eventually her art found its way into coastal galleries where she gained a loyal cliental base globally.

In 2007 Colleen married her fiance', from Wales, Jonathan Prior. Drawn by surfing on the snow, and their love for wide open spaces and animals, the pair moved to The Western Mountains of Idaho in 2020 to raise their children. Today, Colleen splits her board time between her family, creating art, and volunteering whenever possible. —Bio by Chris Dixon

Nami and Boaz: The Surfer’s Tale is a beautiful story about the relationship between the protective and wise owl Boaz and the young spirited surfer girl, Nami. I was captured by their shared stoke for surfing and the pure, genuine way they interact. The simplicity of the story reveals deeper themes of kindness and an appreciation of nature.The author’s colorful and perceptive illustrations show an original talent and enhance the story’s appeal by bringing the characters to life.
Recommended for all ages and every surfer who “knows the feeling.”

A Must Read! Beautiful Story With Incredible Illustrations!

This book is an absolute must read! It’s not just for children, but the story speaks to adults as well. The book is absolutely stunning! Colleen‘s artwork is incredible and it depicts this beautiful tale of Nami and Boaz. Lots of wisdom in this book!
I purchased multiple copies for all of my grandchildren to enjoy.

Grace and gratitude

A quality book with good feel, solid binding, easy turning pages and brilliant color. There are multiple blank pages in the front of the book for the reader to doodle, draw, write and color upon. Nami and Boaz is a surfer’s wonderful short tale of grace and gratitude accompanied by original art from the author to be enjoyed by children, teens and adults worldwide.
I give it five shakas.

What is most endearing to me about the short story, is that the author chose an owl as a companion throughout her young life. If children today use NAMI and Boaz 's sweet connection to influence their
interests and ambitions, they will surely "pilot" their way to the best of everything that their pure heart desires. The original art is sellable as beautiful reminders to keep focused on the horizon and to always seek out a trusting, wise soul to guide one through the currents ... to rise above the waves... And that the best part of enjoying the ride is to share the ride.

Golden Rule

I purchased this book to read to elementary students. This is a true tale of giving back, and treating others with kindness and respect. A must read for children and adults. The life long lesson of love, caring and giving!
