A brave and resourceful 13th-century Viking Princess battles danger, deceit, and treachery to unite the two most powerful Kingdoms in Europe in a Holy Crusade. Join Princess Kristina on her dangerous journey from 13th Century Norway to wed the Prince of Castille.

Her courage, grace, and intelligence allow her to win over her foes and shatter the norms and notions of the role of women in medieval Europe. She grows from a sheltered young woman into a proud, strong, and capable leader able to face the dangers of her travels, and then master the dangerous palace intrigues and rivalries in her new home in Castille.

Powerful and respected enough to break the traditional medieval gender roles and expectations of a woman’s role in a royal marriage, Kristina’s story is a powerful example and positive influence on young people and adults searching for role models to help them understand how to take on the responsibilities and challenges of adulthood.

Viking Princess

The story of King Haakon IV's daughter and Magnus Lagabøte's sister Princess Kristina of Tunsberg is unfortunately not the most well-known from the Norwegian Viking Age. Viking Princess: A True Story Based on a Viking Saga contributes to accentuate the princess`s story

Her life, experiences and fate are told in Howcroft's book both through historical facts and cultural rules that the 1200s brought with them and how family ties were used in strategic choices. The story of Princess Kristina's journey from her own homeland in the far north to an unknown country and culture in the south is highly recommended. It provides perspective on women's place, significance, role and fate in a historical context.
