In his youth, Reginald Duval lived, studied, and attempted to aim for a government job in Haiti, but the regime was devoid of interests outside of their own, and Reginald was blocked every step of the way. It was then he decided to ignore the Haitian Dream and focus on the American Dream.

From his move to the United States, entering the military, learning English, and a series of setbacks and triumphs, Reginald’s story speaks to the immigrant’s experience of making their way in American society. Grappling with racism for being too black and not black enough and learning to understand a new country’s culture, he made his own dream come true by finding his calling in aiding his community and other veterans, serving a valuable and much-needed role in his new country.
