Reviews

"Camille Armstrong's approach to correcting speech problems in children focuses on building up the child's confidence. In her book, 3 Common Speech Errors American Children Make, parents will find creative ways to make speech therapy a fun activity. The short book is organized and presented in easy-to-follow language.

Armstrong's credentials as a performing artist lend creativity to her teachings. Using play therapy and appealing to all the senses are important components. I like that the steps are given a time limit to account for a child's short attention span. I also appreciate that the author differentiates the sessions by age.

Armstrong's credentials as a mother and a nanny are demonstrated by the way she breaks the tasks into practical segments using common materials. As a mother myself, I understand the importance of play therapy, and as a teacher, I am aware of accommodating different learning styles. Armstrong addresses all those concerns.

Because early intervention is so vital, this book should be available for parents well before the child starts school. Focusing on the physical, mechanical corrections needed for proper speech will prevent children from any frustration due to not being understood.

The simplicity and shortness of this book might make readers underestimate its value. The author's creative personality is evident from her writing style. Therefore, I chose to ignore sentence fragments and unorthodox syntax; I declare that this work is whimsically error-free.

My rating is five out of five stars. The only negative for me was the lengthy list of the author's achievements provided at the back of the book. Knowing Armstrong’s particular bands, songs, and performances did not add authenticity to the author's resume for speech therapy. As with many books that I now read, I wish this one had been available when my daughter was young. It would have saved her from years of embarrassment and lack of confidence due to her speech problems. " - Diana Lowery

"While exploring 3 Common Speech Errors American Children Make, what stayed with me was the "honesty of the physical mechanism." Your premise, treating speech correction not as a daunting academic hurdle but as a fun, somatic process akin to learning a new dance move, is an incredibly visceral and propulsive hook for parents, educators, and those who value "performance-based" developmental tools that bridge the gap between childhood anxiety and vocal pride. I found your portrayal of the friction between a child’s verbal embarrassment and the rhythmic, theatrical patience required to build their confidence to be a masterfully built study of practical instruction. It feels like a rare 64-page standout that successfully captures the kinetic energy of your background in STOMP while delivering a high-velocity framework for clear communication." - Rachael Diggs

"As a parent who was constantly worrying about my child's subtle articulation slips, this book was an absolute lifesaver. Armstrong’s breakdown of the "3 common speech errors" is so precise, but what really makes the entire book work is her signature approach of treating speech like a "new dance move." Reading it from cover to cover gave me a complete roadmap. We went from tears of frustration during practice to absolute pride as the physical mechanisms finally clicked for my son." - Bessie Lawson

"You can tell the author spent a decade performing in STOMP because her understanding of rhythm, movement, and physical mechanics shines through every single chapter. Instead of boring, repetitive drills that make kids shut down, she turns speech correction into an active, physical skill-building exercise. By the final pages, you aren't just getting speech tips; you're getting a masterclass in building a child's self-esteem." - Laura Mck

"I read this whole guide over a weekend and implemented the steps immediately with my daughter. The book brilliantly addresses the psychological side of speech difficulties, specifically the anxiety, fear, and embarrassment kids feel when they know they sound different. Armstrong provides a beautiful balance of patience, diligence, and fun that keeps kids engaged without making them feel singled out." - Tony

"This isn't just a quick pamphlet of tips; it's a comprehensive tool that takes you on a full journey from diagnosis to correction. The early chapters really help you identify exactly what errors your child is making, while the later sections focus heavily on reinforcing their speech so they can speak correctly in public settings. The transformation from vocal anxiety to absolute confidence is worth every ounce of diligence." - Eleanor Ris

"The author's fascinating background as a playwright, director, and performer, and her creative voice definitely elevates the text. She frames speech correction through the lens of learning a physical mechanism. Reading the full book allows you to see how these small, daily adjustments accumulate over time into lasting, confident habits. Highly recommended for any parent dealing with stubborn speech habits." - Kathryn Eva

"A wonderfully structured book that requires you to read the whole thing to truly appreciate the method. Armstrong doesn't promise a magic overnight cure; instead, she gives you a fun, structured framework based on physical muscle memory. It takes time and patience, but watching my child move past the embarrassment of mispronouncing common words has been incredibly rewarding." - Calvin Brianna

"I appreciated how organized and intentional this book is from start to finish. It cuts straight to the core of the 3 most prevalent errors American kids face today. As a caregiver, having a multi-talented artist and experienced mother guide you through the physical mechanics of sound production made the practice sessions feel like a game rather than a chore.
