About the Author: Willia Estelle Daughtry, a native of Portsmouth, is a longtime resident of Hampton, Virginia. She is a retired professor emerita in music from Hampton University. Her many years of study in music education culminated in her completion of a doctor of philosophy degree in interdisciplinary humanities-musicology from Syracuse University. Ms. Daughtry is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and Ebenezer Baptist Church in Portsmouth. In addition to her professional work as a pianist, organist, and accompanist, she enjoys needlecraft, cooking, and reading.
