They come from around the world each year, over 1,800 firefighters, to race up 69 floors of the Columbia Center in Seattle.

Carrying over fifty pounds of firefighting gear and breathing only the air they carry on their backs.

Some race for the fastest time, others for the challenge. All do it to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

I did it hoping for a cure.

This book is for all who want a real glimpse of what it is like to work in emergency services

Well done! I finally have a place to direct people who ask "tell me about your job."

John does a remarkable job of telling the stories.

Everyone knows someone who works in emergency services. Johns stories are not unlike any of theirs. Johns stories are real and raw. They will put you where we all go when we go to work.

Thank you John for telling your story. You are a hero.

What a great story based on true life experiences by John. It's an awesome read for those who are...

I want to thank john for sharing his insight to the calling of public service that only a few of us can share. Being part of his life and the ever changing profession with an aggressively operated department was a great and challenging expierence that I'm proud to have been part of. It's a great read based on a seasoned professional and true friend. You have taught me so much.

Awesome!

I had the privilege of living part of this story with John and tells these stories with skill enough to make me laugh and cry. He captured some of the personal thoughts and memories of those of us who live and loved this career and life style. Thank you!
