Product Overview

by Diane Cerone & Illustrated by Lois Auer What would you do if you saw an animal in danger? Lucy, a two-year-old with very sharp eyes, spots a red-tailed hawk stuck in a tree one day. The red-tailed hawk is Feathers, the bird Mr. Donald takes to school with him to show the children. Lucy knows the bird is in trouble, so she yells, Bird, Daddy, bird! Will Lucy and her daddy be able to save the red-tailed hawk in time? Lucys quick thinking, kindness, and love of wildlife make for a heartwarming story for children and adults. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Diane Cerone lives in Annapolis, Maryland, with her husband, Jerry. They have two children: Rene and Stephen. Mrs. Cerone enjoys traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was inspired to write this story after her eldest grandchild, Gretchen, saved a red-tailed hawk seven years ago. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR As an artist and naturalist, Lois Auer has spent the last twenty years studying wildlife and nature. She continues to do field studies as well as reading and attending lectures, giving her a broad understanding of our environment. Loiss journey into the world of raptors began in 1992 with a visit to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, a wildlife rehabilitation hospital. There she photographed the resident birds of prey to use as models for her artwork. Enamored, Lois volunteered as an animal caretaker in the hospital. That experience enabled her to come into contact with wildlife and directly see the impact man has on it. She holds a Federal Permit for Birds of Prey, and she is the owner of the Wild Art Gallery in Crownsville, Maryland. She can be reached at 301-325-0254. (2007, paperback, 32 pages)
