After graduating high school, Bobbie L. Irvin, Jr. left behind his rough upbringing in the beleaguered neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri for the United States Marine Corps, where he traveled the world and learned the lessons of discipline and manhood that would influence the rest of his life. When he returned, he became a police officer, a father, and a community leader—but still faced the lingering effects of his childhood and a neighborhood that sunk deeper into the ravages of drugs and gang violence.

Both heartbreaking and inspirational, Failure to Comply is a coming-of-age story about resiliency, forgiveness, and racial conflict within the African American community. This is a rare glimpse into the childhood of an inner-city youth whose acute self-awareness helped him escape the inevitable. It is a story of tough love and transformations, and how one man used the lessons learned in his tumultuous childhood to beat the odds and put himself on a path for success.

About the Author

Bobbie L. Irvin, Jr. is an author and retired police officer from Kansas City, Missouri. He and his wife currently reside in Cape Coral, Florida. He enjoys fishing, riding motorcycles, and collecting vinyl records. He is currently learning the bass guitar and loves spending time with his grandchildren.

Failure To Comply

I found this book to be composed in a straightforward manner making it enjoyable to read. Retired Officer Irvin tells a compelling story about overcoming life obstacles. He also tells the real story of an officer's life in a large city police department. In the era of demonizing cops, Bobbie Itvin brings humanizes the men and women of this profession.

Failure To Comply

Wow! I knew it was going to be an excellent book,but that was an understatement. I am only half way through it and I can already recommend that everyone needs their own copy of Failure To Comply and a box of kleenex. Be prepared to be busy for awhile , you will want to keep reading.
With all the Racial unrest across the country we keep hearing about the white live and the black life being so different. Bobbie Irvin wrote his biography, "Failure To Comply" . H e brings his life as a black man raised in Kansas City, Missouri to life . Remember I am only half way through it. I felt as I was right there with him as grew up. He went through some of the most horrific times that no one should be exposed to and a lot of black men do and they are not Strong enough to over come the color of their skin and all the stegmia that goes with it. I am going to finish my copy now.. I got my kleenex and coffee. I will update you all in a little bit.
