Bowers was born and raised in Abilene, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1950. He entered the military in 1952 and retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant in 1978. While in the service he earned a B.A. from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, and an M.A. from Webster College in St. Louis. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he enjoys singing barbershop harmony, especially as a member of the City of Lights Barbershop Chorus. (2005, paperback, 98 pages)
