Raw, brutally honest & powerful memoir about resilience, healing and a father's fight for justice

Posted by Kathy McCarthy on Sep 16th 2019

The Fire Within is a powerful memoir about resilience, healing from trauma and a father's fight for justice. An absolute page-turner, I read it all in one sitting. There were times when I couldn't help but cry from the depth of emotion I felt from the author's words, and also times that I laughed. Both are good medicines for healing. I suspect the author knows this. I can't imagine the courage it took to write this memoir. Mr. Fox takes a brutally honest look at himself, doesn't shy away from the rough parts that we all have, bravely admits his wrongdoings, apologizes and details how he healed himself in our traditional ways through ceremony. He should be commended for his bravery. After reading this book, the reason he healed himself is obvious...to put an end to the intergenerational trauma once and for all. Love for his family, his nation and his people is his fire within. He is a role model and an inspiration to all our men and our warriors. Well done, Mr. Fox! Msit no'kmaq/All My Relations
