About the Author

A special education teacher in the Washington, D.C., school district since 1982, Marva L. Boatman has had a career interacting with children with special needs. She holds a B.S. in special education from Florida State University and an M.A. in education and human development from George Washington University. She is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children. A native of Florida, she currently lives in Virginia, where she enjoys sailing, reading, and writing.
